Springboro Underground Railroad Walking Tour

Join us for a walking tour through historic Springboro—home to 27 documented safe houses and one of Ohio’s most active stops on the Underground Railroad. From 1815 to 1864, this small town played a vital role in the pursuit of freedom, offering shelter and support to enslaved individuals on their journey toward liberation.

Led by the Springboro Area Historical Society—a 100% volunteer-run organization—this guided experience begins at the Springboro History Museum with an overview of slavery in America, the Underground Railroad, Quaker involvement, and the founding of Springboro. From there, we’ll journey south through the Historic District, stopping at significant sites. While we do not enter any buildings (except the Museum), the stories shared at each location bring history to life.

Tour Info:

Tours last approximately 90 minutes, with about an hour spent outdoors
The route is under one mile and includes sidewalks, pavement, and grass
We tour rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe
Tours conclude near the K & W Drive-In—a great spot to enjoy a treat afterward
Minimum age: 8 years old
The tour is a $6 donation per person, payable with cash, check, or credit card upon arrival
